The dynamic yoga is a derived form of Hatha Yoga that could be defined as the pursuit of meditation through movement. In it, the asana follow each other in a harmonious rhythm that connects body and mind, benefiting both.

Although on a physical level, it involves a hard training that works on strength and flexibility, it cannot be considered a mere gymnastic exercise, because in dynamic yoga concentration is essential to advance in the knowledge of one’s own being at all its levels: physical, emotional, mental, spiritual.

What is a dynamic yoga session like?

To practice dynamic yoga it is necessary to start with the basics: to know some of the common yoga postures (asana) of this ancient technique of body and mental development.

In a dynamic yoga session, the postures are performed one after the other, continuously, to create a complete sequence of slow movements, always accompanied by deep breathing to promote relaxation. This yoga combines the energy and vitality of Hatha Yoga with the techniques of Vinyasa yoga, whose objective is to achieve complete coordination between movement and breath. To achieve, thus, meditation.

The series of Vinyasa movements focus on specific body areas and muscle groups: lower joints, back and lumbar, chest and arms, abdomen but always going beyond mere physical training, because the objective of dynamic yoga is the integral well-being of the person based on three key elements:

  1. The Drastic. The awareness of what is being done in the present moment. If you practice dynamic yoga, you must concentrate on each of the postures so that the movement flows naturally and you notice the effects of each of them on your own body.
  2. Asana. Maintaining correct postures that give us balance and stability is essential to achieve our well-being.
  3. Vinyasa Series. It is one of the keys of dynamic yoga: the perfect synchronization between the movement and your own breathing that will achieve total fluidity in the passage from one asana to the next.

Review the benefits of dynamic yoga

The principles of yoga remain intact in dynamic yoga, but since it is yoga in motion, it is an excellent exercise that combines the benefits of aerobic and strength training. On a physical level, dynamic yoga requires some preparation, although the series of movements become more complex as you advance in the technique and easily control the asana. Among the advantages of practicing dynamic yoga we must highlight:

  • Stronger and more toned muscles without necessarily gaining volume. In the movements of dynamic yoga, different muscle groups are involved and in the vinyasa series, even the deep muscles are worked, those that are not usually present in traditional exercises that you can do in the gym.
  • Greater flexibility and range of motion in the joints,
  • Increased respiratory capacity and greater control of it.
  • High energy expenditure (fat burning). The succession of postures manages to raise body temperature, increasing caloric expenditure and helping weight loss.
  • Improved balance and posture. The core is strengthened and the spine remains in the correct posture throughout the session.

In addition to these benefits, it should not be forgotten that the perfect coordination between breath and movement favors relaxation, eliminating stress and tension from day to day.

Those who practice this modality of yoga assure that, after a few sessions, a deep sense of well-being is achieved, perhaps provided by the feeling of self-knowledge both physically and mentally that yoga provides.
